What Blogging Niche Should You Choose?
If you’re not aware of the Rise of the Social Influencer then you’ve been spending too much time living under rocks.
In the last 5 years, a number of ordinary Joes have slowly been ascending in the world of Digital Marketing. Covering all fields from Video Games to Music Management, for every niche or interest there is now a dedicated community of bloggers. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got no real experience in the industry or if you’re not that good of a writer.
You can slap a website together using WordPress in a matter of hours and, before you know it, you could be receiving invitations from companies to big events or even getting freebies sent to you through the post.
Of course, there’s a great deal of work that still needs to be put into the upkeep of a website: content needs to be scheduled and you need to remain active on social feeds, don’t forget that there are always dozens (sometimes hundreds) of others trying to do just the same thing!
Before you run head first into creating a new site, though, you might want to consider what niche you’re going to write about.
Although these five niches might well constitute a crowded marketplace, there’s always room for one more and these are by far the most profitable for their owners:
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Considered to be a ‘dark art’ by many traditional advertisers outside of the loop, this is an industry that has truly come into its own in the last couple of years. Its a multi-faceted trade with lots to write about and, luckily for beginners, the information is all out there to learn on the internet.
The most important part of nailing an Internet Marketing blog is the tone of your writing. For the most part, this is a dry topic, so its imperative that you pep up your discourse with some witticisms and informal uses of media like GIFs and videos.
Have you noticed how many Vegetarians are coming out of the wood work now? We live in a world where eating healthier has never been more fashionable and the word ‘Vegan’ is no longer associated with dirty footed hippies. Don’t you think its time to jump on the bandwagon?
Once more, tone is important. When you’re reproducing recipes and health tips, you never want to condescend to your readers. Its important that you’re seen as a friendly helper rather than a schoolmarmish teacher.
Skincare & Beauty
Glossy magazines are no longer the only source for men and women to learn about how to look their best. Thanks to the rise of Social Media stars such as Zoella and Emma Sheldon, a whole horde of (mostly) women have risen to cash in on the new trend, could you be one of them?
In order to keep up with the crowd and get noticed, you’ll need to be handy with a camera and understand some basic principles of aesthetics. You’ll also need to make friends with your fellow bloggers at first, in order to get your following off to a good start.
This is one of the easiest blogs to set up. All it requires is a small modicum of design skills and a good eye for detail. Once you’ve found a nice simple template design you can fill with all sorts of gorgeous photography, design ideas, quotations and other sorts of inspiration for your readers.
You’ll need to spend less time writing and more time curating if you want to succeed within this niche. But don’t expect your following to appear over night. Good, consistent use of Instagram will draw in creative types – they’ll only stick around if they like what you’re sharing.
