I am exempt from registration under the Data Protection Act 1998 in that I am a sole trader who processes and retains personal data only for the purposes of supporting my primary activity.

I comply with the eight principles put in place by the Data Protection Act 1998 to make sure that your information is handled properly. They say that data must be:

• fairly and lawfully processed;
• processed for limited purposes;
• adequate, relevant and not excessive;
• accurate;
• not kept for longer than is necessary;
• processed in line with your rights;
• secure; and,
• not transferred to countries without adequate protection.

Your data will only be retained for the purpose of keeping accounts and records relating to my business. I will not reveal your personal or contact details to any third party in any circumstances other than with your specific consent or where not to do so would involve breaking the law, nor shall I retain information relating to you longer than is necessary for the purposes for which it is obtained.
